The North Devon and Exmoor Walking Festival (which has in the past included some guided nordic walks) ran this May. It is a wonderful opportunity to explore the best routes over Exmoor and North Devon with an experienced guide.

2 general info nordic walking websites: The two links below give a wider and upbeat picture of the nordic walking world, whatever that may be from time to time. These websites include contributions from abroad. The praise of nordic walking is rather fulsome in places, but as a saving grace - I have not yet come across the hard sell of any particular brand of nordic walking poles on these sites.
An international nordic walking chat forum website - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/nordicwalkingecommunity/
You have to join the yahoo group to view the topics. It's quite entertaining if you want to while away an hour or so. If you are unused to reading forums: first may I say that these are 'ad hoc' messages posted by individuals; the messages presumably reflect the personal views (and agendas, if any) of those individuals; and, despite being 'up there' 'in black and white', the messages are not necessarily to be 'relied upon as gospel'. If you are interested, I suggest you first look at the topic list with the messages condensed, and then click on "expand the messages" to read any topic which looks promising. Alternatively you may search for a particular subject.

Ramblers Association
The ramblers association website. Look for a date or map search and you will find the walks in your area. You can go on 2-3 walks for free, but after that you are expected to join the RA.
A nordic weekend break: Many people come to make a weekend on Exmoor and learn the nordic walking technique while they are here. Here are some suggestions for local accommodation. You might also like to consider these if you are coming down for the two North Devon and Exmoor Walking Festivals in May and September.

Jane Alexander
Jane came to learn the nordic walking technique. I didn't know at the time that she is a journalist. She has since written her independent account of an introduction to nordic walking with me, in the Spring 2007 issue of the Exmoor Magasine which you can buy from all local newsagents.
Jane is a journalist and writer, specialising in natural health and holistic living. The Daily Mail called her "Britain’s top writer on alternative therapies" and she is well-trusted as an expert in natural medicine, holistic living and contemporary spirituality. She lives on Exmoor.
